Kanika Sircar

Ceramics

Kanika Sircar is focused upon what the ceramic surface may yield emotionally, symbolically and pictorially. Inspired by the visual impact of writing, frequent sources of her imagery are calligraphy, diagrams, maps or graffiti layered unto ceramic forms, their surfaces stained with slips and marked with carving tools, pencils and iron prints. Her work combines line and color with fragments of texts, the latter often faded and indecipherable, palimpsests of shade, shape and meaning.
